Steam Description: 700 years before the events of Ys I & II, the land of Ys was on the brink of destruction. Demons came in droves and forced the twin Goddesses who ruled the land to whisk their subjects away from the surface, into the safe embrace of the clouds. The demons were persistent, however, erecting a massive tower in pursuit. The battle that raged upon the ground had begun ascending for a second round up above. One day, amidst this turmoil, the Goddesses stole away into the night, vanishing from Ys altogether. And there's only one place they could have gone: the Devil's Tower. A search party of knights and sorcerers was hastily formed and dispatched to the surface in hopes of retrieving these runaway deities. Among its members were apprentice knight Yunica Tovah and troubled sorcerer Hugo Fact. This is their story. Or at least, it's how each of them remembers it. Expanding upon the gameplay elements introduced in Ys: The Ark of Napishtim and further developed in Ys: The Oath in Felghana, Ys Origin perfects the formula by adding different styles of play and new features never before seen in the Ys universe. Best described as an arcade-like platformer RPG with Metroidvania elements and a complex, multi-faceted narrative, Ys Origin is the perfect mix of action, exploration and story. At the dead end corridor on the outside of the tower, Toal will give the replica to Hugo, since he still feels indebted to the knights. Sadly, this only serves to make Hugo feel more inferior. At the boss door, Dalles will appear and successfully tempt Hugo to accept demonic powers, stating that it'll let him surpass his brother and that it's totally safe. Hugo, you've facted up big time. [ 31:58 ] Boss: Pictmos, the Grim Mantid [ 32:18 ] Successful attempt against Pictimos You still have to beat Pictimos fair and square, despite the supposed power up. If you're skilled, you can use Trap Mine to end the battle quicker, especially if you can get it to hit both the head and the base mouth. Afterwards, Pictimos will get up again, but Hugo's demonic powers will activate, making him nearly invincible in terms of gameplay. It's still possible to lose this battle, and you get an achievement for it. Fortunately, you can always retry this specific round. Once Pictimos is dead, Hugo will go mad with power, to the point of blasting his friends. Epona snaps him out of it, but Dalles saw the whole thing, and punishes them by slowly petrifying Epona, with the caveat that she'll shatter once she's fully turned to stone. As Epona dies, she tells Hugo that she'll always respect him for who he as, and leaves behind the Daybreak Talisman.
