This video consists of detailed explanation of steps for calculating derived units using fundamental units with help of a simple example.
Two practice examples (calculating units of momentum and work ) has also been explained step wise step.
Steps :
1) Write the formula of Derived Quantity (Speed =Distance/Time)
2) Find the Fundamental Quantity/s present (Distance, Time)
3) Write Units of Fundamental Quantity/s present (m, s)
4) The acquired unit of Systematic equation gives the Unit of Derived Quantity (Speed (v) = ms-1)
Example 1: The unit of momentum is derived from unit of mass and velocity
Step 1: Write the formula of Derived Quantity (p = m×v)
Step 2 : Find the Fundamental (or Derived quantity/s) present
Fundamental = Mass Derived = Velocity (v = m/s)
Step 3 : Write Units of Fundamental Quantity/s present
p = m×v
p = Kg×ms-1
Example 2: Work : The unit of work is derived from units of force and displacement
Step 1 : Write the formula of Derived Quantity (W = F×S)
Step 2 : Find the Fundamental (or Derived quantity/s) present
Fundamental = Displacement(S) (m) Derived = Force (m×a) = Kg×m/s2
Step 3 : Write Units of Fundamental Quantity/s present
W = F×S
W = Kg×ms-2 ×m
W = Kg×m2/s-2
