Sadhguru explores the science of lingas, and explains how Dhyanalinga, at the Isha Yoga Center, is a "meditation machine." Meditativeness on one level means, creating a distance between you and your physicality, or in other words, it is a simple journey from untruth to truth.

Sadhguru: Oh. The word… (Talking aside) the word linga comes from the root word linga. Linga means the form. Why we are referring it to as the form is – I think already it must have been on a video, hmm? All this is in the video, is it? Okay. Then why am I talking about it. Anyway these lingas or these energy forms or these ellipsoids can be created with various qualities for various purposes. There are some lingas created for health, some for well-being and prosperity, for… some for spiritual progress, some for meditativeness, like this various types of lingas can be created. Essentially they can be categorized as seven different ways. These seven can be further multiplied into many, many kinds. The uniqueness of Dhyanalinga is it has all the seven dimensions of it but essentially it is tweaked towards meditativeness without any instruction. If you simply sit in the sphere of Dhyanalinga you become meditative. How many of you been there? Have you been there? Okay. No instruction, simply go sit there for ten minutes you will become meditative by your own nature without any instruction.
So this is a unique space that’s been created which does this. It is a mercury-based linga. Its base is solidified mercury. When I say… all this is on the video? Hmm? Is it on the video, all this?
Participants: ___ (Inaudible)
Sadhguru: (Laughs) Solidified mercury means mercury is available in its liquid form. The uniqueness of mercury is that it is a substance of the highest density found on the planet. Its specific gravity is 13.93 which is almost fourteen times that of water. So in terms of weight, if one liter of water weighs one kilogram, one liter of mercury weighs close to fourteen kilos. So this is the only substance found on the planet with such density and it's in liquid form. A liquid is heavier than almost all the solids or every solid that you can find on the planet and it can be solidified. Normally modern chemistry does not believe it can be solidified unless you take it to minus thirty-two degree centigrade. But there is an Indian alchemy which is known as the ‘Rasa Vaidya’ through which we solidify mercury, at the room temperature. You can see this – those of you had been there, you have seen in the Teerthakund, but similar solidified mercury is in the… at the base of the Dhyanalinga also in the background of Linga Bhairavi – it is all made of solidified mercury. Because of its density, if you energize it once, it stays that way for an extremely long period of time. We say eternally… we say eternally because we are thinking in terms of ten, fifteen thousand years also it will remain that way. And if the right kind of situation is maintained it may remain that way for hundred thousand years. Hundred thousand years in human experience is quite eternal. Yes? Hundred thousand years is quite an eternal time in terms of human life span because we are thinking in terms of sixty – hundred years.
