Max. demonstrated crosswind on the Arrow is 17 knots. Old Buckenham was reporting 18 from 200 and the runway at Knettishall lies along 26, so I was pretty much on the maximum. However, the plane is fine at max crosswind if that is the only challenge. Knettishall has a row of trees and a haystack immediately to windward of the runway and the low-level turbulence can be severe. I abandoned the first attempt because my friend Jules was driving a tractor and gang-mowers down the centre of the runway and couldn't hear me above the noise. The second attempt was going fine when, at about 100 feet agl, the plane pitched sharply down and rolled right in the "haystack rotor". If the third attempt had failed, I would have returned to Old Buck and landed on 20 grass to wait for calmer conditions. This is how I did....
