To skip the review, go to timestamp 4:50. The first few minutes of this video are a review of a set of 48 color pencils from The Fine Touch at Hobby Lobby. The rest of the video is me drawing an old black and white photograph of a Catholic Mass aboard a US Navy warship during World War 2. I bought these for my niece, who wanted adult color pencils but who I worried couldn't take care of higher end FaberCastell or Prismacolor. And I was amazed by the quality of this set of color pencils from The Fine Touch! The Fine Touch Color Pencils blended beautifully, layered exceptionally well, and were just pleasant to use. The only problem I have with them is their lack of color names or labels on the pencils themselves. Although the color painted on the pencil wood generally matched the color of the pigment very well, there were some exceptions, as mentioned in this video. In the video, I tried speaking Chinese to the people who make The Fine Touch colored pencils (they are made in China), hoping they would fix the problem. However, adding names to the pencils would help a lot, too. Even if the names are just nominal values, like numbers. For the art itself, I was inspired to create a piece that would convey a few thoughts and messages I wanted to share about the Catholic Mass, the Eucharist, and the implications of these things in Catholic (and Orthodox) theology. In particular, I wanted this piece of Christian Art to share Catholic ideas about the physical presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, why we call it "Communion," and the nature of our relationship to Jesus at the Mass. Truth be told, I don't feel like I do enough religious art. I've always enjoyed reading the symbolism of Catholic Art; which is often incredibly deep. And because I was colorizing an old photo, or drawing a black and white photo with these "artist quality" Fine Touch color pencils, this seemed like an awesome opportunity to meditate on these things and express some of my own thoughts with some long overdue Christian art. If religious art isn't really your thing, I do find myself doing mostly secular art, so don't be scared away just because of this one video. However, as a Catholic Christian, it should be expected that my faith, my love for Jesus Christ, and beliefs about the Communion of Saints and the Eucharist will, at least from time to time, influence my art. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that people who see this, but disagree for their own reasons, will be respectful and understanding that this is simply my personal creation process. The things I share about my Catholic Faith here are shared only so you can understand my artistic choices. If you want to argue with someone about religion, I list several sources in the video who have more polished apologists than me who can answer your questions and criticisms about the Catholic Faith a lot more elegantly than I can. These free Catholic Resources include: https://www.catholic.com - Catholic Answers (Apologetics) http://newadvent.org/ (I use it like an Encyclopedia) https://relevantradio.com/ (Radio & Online Broadcasting) If you want to ask me about my personal journey with the Catholic faith and my life as a Christian, I certainly don't mind sharing. I'm by no means a great role model for the teachings of the Church, but I've been doing my best to better conform myself to those teachings over the years. If you want to chat more privately via e-mail about these things, you can always message me at https://www.ktracy.com.
