At around 8.20pm, emergency services were called to the intersection of Forest Rd and Stewart St in Arncliffe following numerous reports of a serious collision. Passing motorists and a large group of residents assisted in the early stages of the accident, however they were unable to free the drivers and one of the trapped passengers. Rescue crews worked for around 2 hours to free the trapped driver of the Mitsubishi Sedan. The driver of an ice cream truck which had overturned in the collision was trapped for a short time. He was freed and transported to hospital. It's believed the red Mitsubishi Lancer impacted with the stationary ice cream truck in a suspected high speed collision. The force of the impact was so great, it flipped the truck onto its side, whilst the sedan continued through a street sign, before stopping in an intersection. Large crowds gathered to watch the rescue operation and fire and ambulance crews worked delicately to free the young man. The driver was eventually released from the wreck and was transported to St George hospital. He is understood to be a stable condition with lower limb injures. The other victims of the accident suffered relatively minor injuries. Police are asking for any witnesses to contact crime stoppers on 1800-333-000
