Dying Natural Transitioning Hair! My Experience

All natural hair was not made equally lol. That is why research is so important when first deciding to dye your hair. It was almost a month before I actually went out and bought a dye then another week of research before I went through with it lol. I was so scared that the chemicals in the dye would somehow destroy my coils and damage my hair but thankfully that didn't happen. Now, I can only speak for MY OWN HAIR so if you do decide to go through with it remember there is always a risk of damaging your hair. So if'n you do (yes I said IF'N) lol here are some BIG tips TIPS: 1) Try using a dye that is AMONIA FREE!. This doesn't mean that it is 100% healthy for your hair, but it is LESS HARSH on you curlies :) 2) You don't have to go with hair dye's made for black women. Dye's like Revlon or Garnier are just as good and works the same. So remember, think outside the Dark&Lovely Box. 3) TEST YOUR HAIR FIRST!!! Remember before you fully dye your entire head test a small area of hair first to see how your hair reacts to the dye you buy. If all looks good, color away. 4) DO NOT LEAVE DYE ON LONGER THEN SUGGESTED IN THE DIRECTIONS. Also know that you might not get the results you really want from the first attempt and you might have to color your hair more than once to get the color you're going for. If this is the case, wait at least 2 week in between coloring to insure your hair's health. 5) Last but surly not least. After coloring, DEEP CONDITION THE HELL OUT OF YOUR HAIR!!!! This is sooooo important it is the 1st rule of dying your hair. After you wash out your dye you can either use the condition the box provides for you or you can use your favorite deep conditioner. I use my own conditioner and I use it twice! lol I'll put a plastic cap on and wrap it in a towel and leave it on for 45 minutes. After I wash out all the conditioner, I reapply and leave it on for 30mins. (This is what I prefer to do) This always leaves my hair feeling moisturized and soft. EXTRA TIP: Olive Oil really helps to keep your hair moisturized so remember to use it whenever your hair feels dry. Good Luck on your hair journey! MORE HAIR!
