Empire

"Empire" is a work by artist Kristin Bergaust, created in 2011. Based on highly retouched photos of royal women of the Victorian era, Bergaust uses digital tools to give life to a highly adorned anonymous torso. Breathing and air is essential, while jewels and luxurious fabrics hold the body in a stern grip. The work is made to loop and has been shown installed as a back projection on silk.
