Grotbags cooks up a plan to do to Emu with a cabbage what was done to Snow White with an apple, while Redford is trying to unblock her bath and Croc is making a sandwich. Down at the Pink Windmill, the Green Goddess (a.k.a. Diana Moran) drops by for a spot of aerobics, and in Boggle's Kingdom, the Dreamy Village Navy (headed by Victor Spinetti) are shown the Royal Treasury room. This episode was originally broadcast on Friday, 21st February, 1986. The dance routines in this one are the extravagantly-costumed Birdland (originally by Weather Report) and Jump for Joy (by The Jacksons). One person not jumping for joy in the latter is poor Beth, who, having just turned down the star prize in the Grotto Game, is clearly visible back in the audience next to Rod at 38:00 and cheesed off beyond belief. Speaking of the Grotto Game, have you tried spotting all the references to other contemporary game shows Grotbags throws out? The likes of Bullseye, Family Fortunes, The Price Is Right, and many others get a nod in this series. Elsewhere, I don't know if it needs explaining these days, but "Aah, misto" is a parody of an old advert for Bisto, Luton Airport was a punchline in a Campari ad, and is M-M-M-M-M-M-M-Mrs Grotbags a Paul Hardcastle reference? Paul was on the show two episodes later, so it wouldn't surprise me. What else? Rod and Emu try their hand at being waiters in a restaurant, Trina drops in at Denistone East Primary School in New South Wales, and the phones fail Simon in Feltham, meaning he can't play the Spin Quiz and causing - I think - a 30-second over-run. That really abrupt cut to black from the Central moon at the end, by the way, is real, and not the result of bad editing on my part. One last thing to keep an eye out for: the little lad on the front row being a real horror at 42:10 and trying to pick a fight with the girl sitting next to him. Tut tut. Look out for some Children's ITV continuity at the beginning presented by Nino Firetto from Splash, featuring a promo for the new series of Dodger, Bonzo and the Rest (the one with Madness's Our House as the theme tune). And what did we all do as soon as this episode had finished? We switched over to Children's BBC and were shocked at the big reveal that Zammo was a junkie. Just say no, kids! Many thanks to Joe for lending me this tape. (To the best of my knowledge, the contents of this video have never been available commercially anywhere in the world.
