http://www.azhumane.org/summertosavelives/ ▶ Lost and roaming Valley streets, practically unable to see or hear due to the severe mats taking over his little seven-pound body, 5-year-old Enzo, a Toy Poodle, was a sight for sore eyes upon his entry into AHS’ Second Chance Animal Hospital.
The mats were a clear sign of neglect and hid a variety of ailments, ranging from malnutrition and a body condition score (BCS) of a two out of nine – with one being severely emaciated and nine being severely overweight – as well as parasites and a small wound to his ear. Blood work revealed that he was also anemic and his teeth had been just as neglected as the rest of his little body.
In a matter of days, Enzo received a dental exam and cleaning, mercy groom, nutritious food and an abundance of love. Despite all of the poking and prodding by AHS veterinarians, Enzo loved the gentle touch of AHS staff and soon found himself on an AHS field trip as a shelter ambassador. Before the day was done, he had a new forever home with a family that loved him unconditionally.
