Esse Quam Videri

Esse quam videri is a Latin phrase meaning "To be, rather than to seem." It is also the motto of my old school, Garrison Forest, and it popped into my head when I was reading The Master Key System by Charles Haanel. In the book, I read "...what we are communicates more eloquently than what we say or do." I think 'esse quam videri' is a phrase to strive for, every single day. Are we being or just seeming to be?
