Yes, this highly hyped game has a troubled past and present, currently with a Mixed rating on Steam and with only around 100 players online at certain times. This, from a peak of 50000 players, two years ago. Also, the main branch (Evolve Stage 2) servers are shutdown since this month, and the only way to play it is through peer-to-peer matchmaking in Legacy Evolve (the second branch). It was envisioned as something great and much more complex, alas it didn't panned out and you can read here some details about what went wrong with it: https://www.reddit.com/r/mattcolville/comments/8o3681/evolve/e015406/?st=ji0j9fe8&sh=29eaaa10 On the Linux side, not much to tell. The first clue about Evolve coming to Linux appeared on Feral's radar in January 2015: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/feral-interactive-are-teasing-another-linux-port.4902. While the clue connection with Evolve was never 100% confirmed, Feral depots for the game appeared at the same time and they were making progress: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/evolve-looks-closer-to-a-linux-release.5358 and much later: https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/looks-like-evolve-might-still-come-to-linux-steamos.6693 On the Windows side the things were not going well though, and eventually Evolve become free to play which rendered the Linux port not worthy, with the Evolve clue silently disappearing from the Feral's radar. Even today, the Linux depot is still there: https://steamdb.info/app/273350/depots/ but that's all what is left from the (once) big hype of Evolve Linux port. Well, even Linux users had mixed opinions about the game, as you can see from the comments linked above. That being said, the game runs now pretty well with Steam Play, considering that what I use is a AMD HD 7970 card with a i7-4790K CPU. It is played at High settings and stays at 60 FPS 99% of the time. What you see here is the main branch played in offline mode (the tutorial actually) but runs equally well in other type of matches. For the actual online playing you need to switch to the Legacy branch and (from what I understand) to buy a Evolve Stage 2 Founders Edition Steam Key, which is a couple of bucks on various places (found one with 2 EUR on Ebay).
