"Farther Figure" is a personal story about Deejer vocalist Chris Didear, his family, and more specifically his biological father. "It was a collection of feelings and factual information that I've held inside for most of my life. The song itself is not meant as retaliation, but merely a sincere attempt to connect with people who have lived through similar situations," says Chris Didear. "Finally, it is my wish to impart that there is no such thing as an illegitimate child, just illegitimate fathers."
The video includes footage of Deejer performing at FMF'04 and The Old Pecan Street Festival in Austin, Texas in 2004 as well as candid pictures of the band and personal photos from Chris's life.
Farther Figure (Lyrics)
Dallas-1967
A young promoter met a 17 year-old singer
I don't think you deserved her
but you were, the one, that she loved
Farther and farther away...
father you are
Further and further away...
from me you keep on fading
You disappeared and left her 5 months pregnant
You turned your back, on the both of us --and you know it
My existence is a family secret
I grew up, with the anger burned in my blood
Chorus
So glad I found the sister, I never knew I had
You robbed us both of time and we can never get it back
My son will have a good life, a life less empty than mine
I'll work each day to be the kind of Dad you could have been
Chorus
Fading, fading, fading, fading x 2
Failing, failing, failing, failing x 2
Lyrics: C. Didear 12/18/02
Music: B. Gibbs & Deejer
