How did you get into Advertising?
I had always wanted to work in the communications industry and I had been scouring newspapers and websites for a job that excited me. I applied for a job working in Advertising Sales at a TV company through the Media section in The Guardian newspaper. Within weeks of working there I knew that I wanted to carve out a career in advertising. Within a month of working there I knew that I wanted a job at Channel 4. For me it was the TV station that I felt most connected to and I think that working in a Sales environment it is important to believe what you are selling as well as feel a connection with it. After 6 months in my first job, I started to write to the HR team at C4 and after much persistence I eventually got an interview!
What is your Natural Habitat?
The great thing about working in advertising is that every week is different to the next! I spend a lot of time at the C4 headquarters. My team deliver 'creative solutions' to advertisers and we are sat right in the thick of things on the sales floor. The atmosphere is energetic, it's never quiet and there is always someone around to bounce ideas off! We are constantly pitching to clients so when I'm not in the office I will be out presenting to an advertising agency or an advertising brand -- could be any type of company; EE, Pot Noodle, Lloyds Bank! Because my job involves the more creative side of advertising, I could be out on a shoot. One of my favourite shoots was for Diet Coke which involved me spending the day with 8 male models, Rick Edwards, George Lamb and Proudlock from Made in Chelsea. Fantastic!
What makes a SuperFoxx?
For me a Superfoxx is a woman with the confidence, self belief and work ethic to achieve the things she desires. A Superfoxx learns and hones her skills and it is passion & dedication that gets her to the top rather than being unscrupulous or under hand
Who do I aspire to?
Wow! There are so many inspirational women who have had a hand in making the world what it is today. Rosa Parkes who refused to give up her seat on a bus to a White man and through that tiny protest set off some of the biggest changes to legislation in the US to date. More recently Malala Yousafzi who defied threats from the Taliban. One of my favourite Women in history was Katharine Hepburn. Most people know her as a beautiful, iconic, Oscar winning actress. But she led a very controversial lifestyle for a Woman in the 1920's and 30's -- she was outspoken, athletic assertive and wore trousers before they were accepted attire for a lady! Instead of bowing down to pressure to conform, she used her start status to change opinion of a Woman's traditional role in society.
What would I like to share today?
Don't give up!
Not everything is easy. We all have to do things we don't want to -- maybe something that pushes us out of our comfort zone or maybe something that doesn't have an instant reward. Dedication and perseverance will eventuality reap the rewards you desire. Set yourself realistic goals and a time in which to achieve them. Each and every achievement is something to celebrate and a step closer to your ultimate goal. You only live once so live your life with a purpose!
