Croquis Cafe's Figuary videos are no longer on YouTube - find the videos here instead: https://vimeo.com/channels/figuary/videos Get our guide ‘Life Drawing Success’, which is all about the one big mistake which led to all my other mistakes: http://lovelifedrawing.com/lifedrawingsuccess Hi life drawing friends! On Day 4 of Figuary, we are going to look at how powerful it is when you start to be bold with sharp angles and big curves in the torso. We look at an example from life drawing student Kasem. He was able to transform his drawings by going for it, especially bringing in the torso where there is a fold or twist. Generally this is where the torso is bent and the ribcage pulls in the outline on one side and pushes it out on the other side. The squashy mid-section sharply turns the outline so it can meet the other boxy rigid shape - the pelvis. Capturing the sharp angles and big curves created by the ribcage and pelvis with the flexible middle is a huge part of figure drawing. Post your drawings to Instagram with the hashtag #figuary. Croquis Cafe will be posting daily practice sessions - life models posing for you to draw. Croquis Cafe channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/onairvideo/ The idea is that you draw, even if only a little bit, each day for 28 days - the perfect amount of time to build a good drawing habit. Along the way, we will also start looking at powerful techniques to help take your drawings to the next level. This first week is all about seeing the most important angles and curves in the pose. The second week will be about the light and dark in the pose. The third week will be about making confident and expressive marks on the paper. The fourth week will be about gesture and other additional tips.
