Floating Doctors: Toe Amputation Follow-Up (Warning: Graphic Surgical Content)

Warning: Graphic Surgical Content 8 weeks later, it is time to check on the young boy way up in the mountains whose toe we amputated on the spot after he chopped it with a machete. It is a LONG walk up the mountains on poor trails with an overnight stay to do a 3 minute house call to check the wound, but FOLLOW UP is the most important part of medicine (or any other profession, for that matter) and we are committed to providing it! It's tough enough scrambling up a muddy mountain in tropical heat, but when we came down we were annihilated by rain and lightning, which struck the ground around us. As we reached the bottom of the mountain and walked through the community there, three people got struck by lightning, including an 8-month pregnant lady...all walked away alive...but a story for another time...
