This video shows a few different ways to sight while swimming in the open water. "Alligator eyes" require the least amount of head lift "Up-Side-Down" involves lifting the head to sight, then turning it to the side to inhale and then pushing it back down in the water to get your hips back up. "Side-Up-Down" is similar but in reverse. You turn your head to inhale, then lift it to sight and then put it back down to get your hips back up.
