A team of Stanford Bio-X scientists has created a robot that can visually inspect awake flies and, even better, carry out behavioral experiments that were impossible with anesthetized flies. In this video the robot captures three flies and transfers them to head holders. After picking each fly, the robot carried it to an inspection camera and obtained the location of the neck apse. The robot used this information to align and tether the head of the fly to the holder using suction. The flies were released unharmed after the experiment.
