Images shot by the Soviet Red Army in January and February of 1945 show the horrific conditions which survivors of the holocaust were forced to endure until their liberation on 27 January by Soviet forces. More than a million people -- most of them Jews, but also ethnic minority members, homosexuals and dissidents -- were killed at the extermination camp in Nazi-occupied Poland.
