France: Ayrault meets with West Balkan reps to discuss refugee crisis

French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault spoke to the press in Paris, Tuesday, ahead of a summit he is hosting with Western Balkan nations on July 4, to discuss the influx of refugees into the region. During the press conference, Ayrault stressed his willingness to cooperate with the West Balkan states. He said, "Facing the massive influx of refugees, everyone has to face it, everyone in their own country and - over time - the coordination and cooperation are improved." SOT, Jean-Marc Ayrault, French Minister of Foreign Affairs (French): "Our meeting is also about the creating an exchange in order to examine all the common challenges that we have to face together. Today, everyone will know the consequences of the war at the door to Europe, in Syria and the Levant." Here we have the conviction that the response has to be European, the response that'll work through the cooperation of all countries. We know that we have to face the risk of terrorism. These also have to be common efforts. A lot is able to be done but we will do more, and do it better, by further reinforcing our capacity to fight together against a phenomenon that directly affects the safety of our citizens. It is together that we will examine this difficult issue this afternoon and this evening, with the objective to further reinforce our common actions. Because we know well that we have a common destiny; that the history shows us what is needed and we to meet what is required. And to respond to that, we have to do it with the European Union and the West Balkan countries, because the European Union is right beside their partners in the Balkans.
