From one space to another: Kerry Reid Searl at TEDxNoosa 2014

Kerry Reid-Searl: Professor, Teacher, Nurse and Midwife Bio: Kerry Reid-Searl is a Professor of Nursing at CQUniversity and is acknowledged as a leader in health care education through her pioneering work in creating, designing and researching a unique simulation teaching strategy called Mask-Ed (KRS Simulation). She is passionate about increasing the quality of care for patients. Through her innovative teaching methods, Kerry imparts compassionate values and high professional standards to her students. Utilising tenets from both education and drama, Kerry creates and embodies vivid characters who shape the way students approach the humanism and complexities of quality nursing care. Australian Learning and Teaching Citations, Pearson/ Australia Nurse educator of the year, an Australian award for Excellence in University Teaching and in 2013 the Simulation Australia achievement award. Kerry is also well published in international journals for her work and has been the principal author, as well co-author, of several nursing texts books which have been sold nationally and internationally. Kerry grew up in Tasmania, is a mother of three and lives on the Capricorn coast where she has a passion for sea kayaking Title: From one space to another: Entering the inner space of students' minds and hearts to shape their practice as health care professionals Synopsis: Mask-Ed (KRS Simulation) is a teaching technique where the educator is hidden in silicone props. Suspended in disbelief, students learn to care while the masked teacher directs the process. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
