German shepherd will not leave owner' side

Well, we know by now that Shadow the German shepherd is made of velcro....well not literally but he certainly is very clingy indeed, so much so that he will not let his owner exercise that is for sure! so before you leap into adopting a german shepherd please be aware that you will be basically sharing your life with him or her and you will no loner be able to go to the bathroom by yourself, shower by yourself or do anything by yourself ever again but the flip side is good they are amazing listeners the way they tilt their head when they hear your voice and you will never feel lonely again, german shepherd s are very very smart so much so that they will have your routine figured out before you do, SCARY!! and they need mental stimulation, without this a german shepherd is no fun at all, they really want to please their owners and are also extremley protective The GSD breed as a whole is pretty much genetically programed to develop a close relationship with the owner and work closely with the owner. This is the way they were designed. They are not an independent breed by nature. Some people consider this to be "clingy", and indeed in some dogs the behavior is more pronounced, in which case it usually stems from a lack of self confidence. But in most it's not that they need to be with people out of a need for security, it's that they naturally want to be with people and interact with people. Of course, as with most things the behavior can be enhanced or inhibited by the environment, but the fundamentals are in their dog's genetics All that being said German Shepherds are in my opinion the best dogs in the world.
