"We are here today to stand for fair prices, for agriculture, for cooperation, so that we will have a regional agriculture in Germany, which will be under ecological guidelines as well," said spokesperson of landscape association Dirk Andresen. "We want to engage in the dialogue and want to develop a sustainable agriculture in Germany for the future of the agriculture in all the regions," he added. The protest was organised to coincide with the International Green Week, a large consumer fair for food, agricultural, and horticultural industries. Thomas Essig, one of the protesters said "we want to have fair prices from the consumers, but the market isn’t allowing it yet. We want to be able to survive on the food products we produce and not dependent on the pittance we are receiving." According to media reports around 1000 tractors are believed to have descended on the city centre, driving around Berlin's Victory column. Protests were reportedly also held in Bavaria, Baden Wurttemberg and Bremen.
