GMC Hoops Highlights--March 8, 2014--Spotswood @ Matawan--CJ Group II Semifinals

Here are highlights from the action in the 2014 Central Jersey Group II semifinal contest between top seeded Matawan and fourth seeded Spotswood. The Chargers led throughout much of the first three plus periods, but Matawan kept hanging in there until early in the fourth quarter when Nick Tomkins converted a three point play for a 36-35 lead, and then Austen Planes followed with a layup of his own before Jason Dunne connected on a jumper for a five point lead midway through the final period. The Chargers were able to draw within two on a basket and one of two from the line by Marlon Hart, but weren't able to get any closer as the Huskies are playing for their first sectional championship since 1996 when head coach, Tom Stead was on the opposing sideline at Holmdel. Spotswood completed its season at 22-6, the most wins in school history along with its third GMCT Elite Eight berth in the last five years, and fourth CJ Group II Final Four appearance in the past 6 seasons. Jake Dadika led the Chargers with a game high 19 points while Joe Piscopo led Matawan with 13 points.
