God "foreknew" the elect? What does that mean??У вашего броузера проблема в совместимости с HTML5
[29] For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; [30] and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. (Romans 8:29-30, NASB) So what does the "foreknew" in Romans 8:29 mean? Greek words: -foreknow = proginōskō (προγινώσκω) means, "to know beforehand, that is, foresee: - foreknow (ordain), know (before)." -predestined = proorizō (προορίζω) means, "to limit in advance, that is, (figuratively) predetermine: - determine before, ordain, predestinate." -know = ginōskō (γινώσκω) means, "allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) known (-ledge), perceive, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand. The Lord Jesus says in John 17:3, "This is eternal life, that they may know [ginōskō] You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." Jesus says eternal life is to know, ginōskō, the Father and the Son. Obviously Jesus is not talking about intellectual knowledge of facts regarding the Father and the Son. It is much more than that. Jesus is talking about having a personal, loving relationship with both divine persons. Ginōskō is the root word of proginōskō, that is foreknow. What Paul is saying in Romans 8:29, is that God loved the elect in advance and also predestined them to be conformed to the image of Christ. Therefore in Romans 8:30, the elect are also predestined for justification from sin and glorification in heaven. Which one is more meaningful towards you, as a Christian? That God loved you even before time began? Or that God had intellectually foresaw facts regarding your choice of Him? And which one flows in the context of Romans 8? God's amazing love or God's amazing foreknowledge? Of course, Romans 8 is a very love filled passage. It is famous for that. And if foreknew really means loved in advance, if we allow the definition of proorizō (predestined) to stand, then we have to acknowledge the doctrine of Sovereign Election. And to believe in 1 point of Calvinism, you must believe in all 5. Or we can always water down the very meaning of proorizō, and read our own personal definition into it? What do we prefer proorizō to mean? The real definition, or our own preferred definition? God predestines all Christians for eternal life. Are you going to allow God to have that freedom? His freedom to choose? Paul certainly had a high view of God's predestination and His right to do whatever He wants with His own creation: [19] You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? For who resists His will?" [20] On the contrary, who are you, O man, who answers back to God? The thing molded will not say to the molder, "Why did you make me like this," will it? [21] Or does not the potter have a right over the clay, to make from the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for common use? [22] What if God, although willing to demonstrate His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction? [23] And He did so to make known the riches of His glory upon vessels of mercy, which He prepared beforehand for glory, [24] even us, whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles.
