God Hand | The Importance of Conveyance in Action Games

God Hand has long been considered a cult classic, or a forgotten gem from the Playstation 2 era. Due in part to lukewarm-to-scathing critique at the time, God Hand sadly fell into obscurity, despite remaining a popular game in certain corners of the internet such as 4chan. However, I feel a major reason that God Hand failed to perform later on its its lifetime was due in-part to how poorly it represents itself and its mechanics. Underneath it's goofy exterior and muddy graphics is a surprisingly deep Action Game with an impressive potential for both style and skill development... but how come so few people seemed to recognize that? This video will cover why I think God Hand ultimately fell into obscurity upon release, and why, despite a small handful of dedicated fans, the game never received the proper credit it deserved for being the skillful, stylish action game it is. I will discuss the nature of Action Games, positive examples of action games that convey themselves well, and why God Hand doesn't, as well as ways it could potentially improve itself in the future.
