Goeyvaerts String Trio explains in this video the use of 'just intonation' in Arvo Pärt's Stabat Mater on their new recording. The three members - Kristien Roels, Kris Matthyssens and Pieter Stas - have been experimenting for years with intonation. First they found out that playing the piece with vibrato did not work for them so they studied it WITHOUT vibrato. After years and years of practice they now have found a way to play the piece in 'just intonation' and a whole new world opens itself. Different layers become audible/visible. This is the first recording ever of the Stabat Mater of Pärt in 'just intonation'. In this video we hear the beautiful and fragile opening of the work. The whole piece of course is to be found on the cd: http://www.challengerecords.com/products/1387354222/ See also the promotional Youtube video of the recording of Stabat Mater: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouPuLrjB_bo In the promotional video and on the cd you can, besides the Goeyvaerts String Trio ,also see and hear the three performing singers: Zsuzsi Tóth, Barnabas Hegyi and Olivier Berten. Furthermore on the same cd you'll hear the new piece written by Ivan Moody called Simeron, especially composed for the trio. This CD is a production of Challenge Classics www.challengerecords.com
