Hasselblad X1D - Hands On Review

At $9000, the X1D's price won't surprise current Hasselblad users or other camera experts, but it doesn't do much to woo too many new users either. Hasselblad lives up to its name with the build quality of the X1D, and has truly modernized and simplified the medium format camera with it's new, intuitive touch pad on the back of the body. With a great, solid build quality that warrants its hefty price tag, the X1D comes with a fantastic, medium format censor, that gives users amazing resolution and depth of field control. Since the camera is pumping out extremely large, 16-bit RAW files, don't expect the X1D to be the fastest camera out there; it can only take about 2.5 shots per second and a maximum shutter speed of 1/2000th of a second. The Hasselblad X1D also comes with the very versatile leaf shutter apparatus, which means you can sync a flash at any speed, up to its 1/2000th of a second shutter speed. And although the focus isn't the quickest we've seen on a modern camera, it is extremely accurate. But this can come off as a two-step process, since you have to operate physical buttons on top of the camera body, along with the touch screen on the back. The Hasselblad X1D will likely attract mostly current Hasselblad H-system owners, who can bring over their current lenses. But, the X1D is an impressive camera, because it brings digital medium format image quality, with the flexibility of a leaf shutter, together in a much more portable form factor.
