Groundlings are human servants to the Markons, hoping that the Markons will eventually give them some paranormal power. I guess the Markons have done this in the past with people like the Mothman or shadow people and who knows how many else. According to Victoria Nolan is an Awaken. He has gained some paranormal power from his near death experience and it's getting stronger the longer he's around me. The Markons and Groundlings are out to get rid of all good paranormal forces, which apparently include me, a Luiseach.
