Hawaii's Woodshow 2013

One of the highlights of my year is visiting Hawaii's Woodshow at the Linekona Art Center. The Hawaii Forest Industry Association encourages participants to use wood harvested from downed trees and from the less rare species of wood available on the islands. A list of sponsor credits is at the end of this description. Although we consider woodworking a craft, these woodworkers have turned their craft into an art form. From the extremely innovative and large turning work of Bob Butts to the marquetry work of Robert Byrnes, this show has furniture, sculpture, and lathe work. We speak to the show curator Andy Cole, to one of the new furniture makers David Lung, and to the traditional Hawaiian worker Keith Maile.
