This is a very simple, low tech video. Filmed with a photo camera in my little shack at 2 AM in the morning local time (0800Z). Conditions are very basic, as you can see. Just like being in the trail on a rough wood table. HiHi. This amazing little yellow radio, even though it is CW QRP Only, is full of surprises. It is tough built, behaves extremely well and I highly recommend it with my eyes closed !!! It was fun to put together, see it working and have long distance QSO's with something that you put together is great! It was designed by Steve Weber KD1JV and is one of his best designs. My longest confirmed QSO is with GR100MGY from San Salvador to Surrey, England (Special Titanic 100 years station) for a total distance of 8732.3 km. Roughly 1743.5 kms per Watt. Of course, is not the radio but propagation too. It is amazing what CW can do when conditions are just right. Full of features: 3 bands 20, 30 and 40 Meters. 5 Watts @ 12VDC in all bands. You tune your frequencies with buttons. Using the paddles you can dial the desired frequency too. Internal built-in Keyer with 2 Memories and two Iambic modes. Can use straight keys too but do not work well unless you are good and transmit like a digital keyer, so avoid straight keys with this rig as sometimes the system takes over and delays your keystrokes making a mess on your transmission; but again, if you are good and transmit like a clock then it will work. Internal built-in Antenna Tuner. Will handle Balanced Line and Coax antennas The antenna tuner covers the whole 3 bands and will almost tune anything you throw to the radio. Small and compact. Light Weight. Last but not least... its color will help you find it in case you drop it on the trail and the best feature... it keeps the radio cool under intense sun. Do that with any black radio!!! My PC was overheating when working under the sun while helping in Haiti after the earthquake. It was a black laptop. Sure this happens with all black radios too. Did I mentioned it has got a relative good price too? Hope you like the video. 73 de YS1RS.
