LANTZVILLE -- An equestrian program in Nanoose is allowing children with special needs to run fast and run free.
Errington Therapeutic Riding Association is a non-profit volunteer program that operates on a tight budget and struggles to break-even.
But this year it is getting some much needed financial help through the United Way.
The United Way Change Starts Here campaign is pledging $10,000 towards the program's overall operating costs.
Families who benefit from the Therapeutic Riding Association include 10-year-old Brooklyn Duttons. She suffers from Sturgeweber Syndrome, which is a disease that limits her movement.
Brooklyn's mother says the program has drastically improved her daughter's mobility and self-confidence.
Through United Way, funding the ETRA is able to continue to fund the course twice a year.
