This Travis Kauffman interview gave all the details of the Colorado mountain lion attack. Travis Kauffman, Colorado runner: About a quarter mile into that run, i heard some pine needles rustle behind me. Luckily i was able to turn my head, i would say more often than not, i would turn but i wouldn’t because i thought it was a rabbit. But in the back of my mind, it could be something else? And this time it was a mountain lion. One of my worst fears was confirmed. Travis Kauffman was running on the trails in Horsetooth Mountain Park when he encountered the mountain lion. The mountain lion attack went like this: The large cat immediately latched onto Kauffman’s wrist and wouldn’t let go. Kauffman: It started clawing along my face and my legs and I was screaming the whole time, doing my barbarian yell, and I tried to throw it off of me and as tried to throw him, we left the trail because he gripped my wrist and we both tumbled off. From there it was a wrestling match. It was trashing and my wrists latched. I was able to get my left knee to pin down it’s back legs. As a new cat owner i realized once you get a cat on its back its back legs go crazy and that little rabbit thrash, so i was wary of back claws hitting my guts or groin. I was able to pin down its back legs with my left knee. Kauffman knew the mountain lion encounter could mean life or death with the 50-pound animal Kauffman: I was grabbing at sticks close by, and i was trying to stab it in the throat with some stickers, but they were rotten and kept breaking. I was able to pick up a big rock with my left hand and hit in on the head, but it was tough because my writse was in its mouth. And I knew it wasn’t going to be super effective because I used body weight transition and got my right leg close to my wrist and got in onto the cat’s neck and stepped on its neck and suffocated it and it released from my wrist. After being released, Kauffman said he had to run about 3 miles back to safety. He met other runners on the way down, who then drove him to the hospital. Kauffman was given 28 stitches, including 6 along the bridge of his nose and 3 in his wrist. He’s healing well now and has even returned to the mountain where he was attacked to run. #Runner #Running #MountainLion #Lion #Colorado Connect with NowThis » Like us on Facebook: http://go.nowth.is/News_Facebook » Tweet us on Twitter: http://go.nowth.is/News_Twitter » Follow us on Instagram: http://go.nowth.is/News_Instagram » Find us on Snapchat Discover: http://go.nowth.is/News_Snapchat NowThis is your premier news outlet providing you with all the videos you need to stay up to date on all the latest in trending news.
