A step-by-step tutorial of Filmora color grading tool and how to easily create a cinematic film look. Here's how to easily do it in Filmora. Download Filmroa free trial here: https://filmora.wondershare.com/video-editor/?utm_source=filmora_seo_channel&utm_medium=annotations&utm_campaign=Advanced_howtocolorgrading Here's a walk-through of editing options and tutorial on how to easily make color grading and create cinematic film look: 1. White balance Let’s take this video as an example. We can tell that the dominant color is blue. Let’s adjust the white balance by dragging the slide bar to right in Temperature. When the white color on her shirt looks natural, we get the right white balance. You can also adjust the tints. To the left, you get a colder color; to the right, you get a warmer color, depends on the content and emotion you’d like to convey. For example, a warm candlelit dinner differs from a cold winter’s night in tint. 2. Color correction Now, let’s expand Color, we need to increase the exposure and brightness. The contrast looks good, so we won’t change it. Higher saturation makes the grass look greener, and the sky look bluer. It seems the saturation of her skin is too much. But we can avoid that by slightly decreasing the vibrance. 3. Light Light is a vital part in color grading. You can make changes solely on highlights, shadows, white color scale or black color scale. White and Black slide bars control the area that’s close to pure white color and pure black color respectively. 4. HSL Notice there’re 8 color options: red, orange, yellow, green, magenta, purple, blur, cyan. That means we can adjust each of the 8 analogous colors schemes in the video. For example, the grass land is in green colors scheme. Select green wheel, adjust hue a little bit, increase saturation and luminance, the grass land will look more vivid. If we need to change the color in the sky, just select blue wheel. Increase hue and sky becomes pink purple, isn’t it like in a unicorn fairytale? Decrease hue, and sky becomes green. I’d prefer natural blue sky. Luminance will have an impact too. 5. Vignette White or black vignette is available now. Left half of Amount is white vignette, right half is black vignette. You can customize your vignette by adjusting size, roundness, feather, exposure and highlight. In cinematic film look, Vignette is applied on messy background, so the distraction will be reduced and key objects will be highlighted. For this background which looks clean, no vignette is needed. 6. Comparison preview On the top right corner, there’s an eye icon. Click here and hold to check original screenshot. In addition, in Filmora 7.8, you can conveniently compare the footages before and after color grading. Click this button to save the edits you make as your preset. We name it Beauty, click OK and it will be under Custom in Preset library. 7. 3D Luts At last, I’d like to introduce 3D Luts. In the dropdown, you can find a lot of professional color grading presets, including some presets used in famous films like 007, Batman or 300, and easily apply them. Alternatively, you can download some 3D Luts files online and import in it. Here’re some websites to download free 3D Luts resources. Actually, if you select Preset, you’ll be presented with a list of 3D Luts with thumbnails. And select Custom, you can find the customized preset we just saved. Hope you find it useful in making your stunning videos.
