If you notice that your iPhone (or iPad) feels hot, check out these tips to help it cool down https://appletoolbox.com/2016/10/iphone-overheating-hot-how-to-fix/ https://appletoolbox.com/2015/01/iphone-6-gets-hot-fix/ Music by bensound.com Richie: Hi, it’s Richie from AppleToolBox. Richie: Sometimes our iPhones get hot. And usually it’s normal. But if your phone is getting too hot and is uncomfortable to the touch OR if you frequently see the message that your “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it,” then there is a problem. Richie: The first suspect is often your iPhone case. Some cases trap heat and prevent your phone from properly cooling. So, before trying anything else, take you phone out of its case and power it off. Richie: Wait 30 minutes or so and see if your phone cools down. Richie: If after an hour, your phone is still hot, call Apple Support as soon as possible. You might have a defective battery. DO NOT USE YOUR PHONE until it’s been inspected. Richie: If your phone cools down after powering down but runs hot when using, here’s some tips that might help to keep things chill. Richie: Believe it or not, but your cables and charger do indeed matter! So if your iPhone’s running hot during charging, make sure you are used either Apple branded cables or Made-for-iPhone (MFI) approved. Richie: Next, let’s look at some Settings that might contribute to your iPhone overheating Richie: Limit Background App Refresh or turn it off completely. Go to Settings / General / Background App Refresh and reduce the number of apps refreshing. Richie: Using GPS really heats things up, so if possible turn this off by going to Settings / Privacy / Location Services. If you don’t want to completely turn it off, change allow location access to while using the app instead of always. Richie: Both WiFi and Bluetooth are common culprits, so resetting your network settings might help tame these. Tap on Settings / General / Reset / Reset Network Settings. Just make sure you write down your WIFI IDs and passwords. You’ll need to enter that information again for every network you use. Richie: A similar strategy is to Turn ON Airplane mode. This automatically turns off GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, and Cellular data. Turn it on quickly using Control Centre. Richie: Sometimes apps take on a life of their own. We call these Runaway Apps. They’re usually third party apps that get stuck or frozen. So we’ll want to close them. Richie: Double Tap Home to open your App Switcher and swipe up each app to close. Once all the apps are closed, force restart your iPhone by pressing both the Power and the Home buttons until you see the Apple Logo. Richie: For iPhones without mechanical home buttons, press Power and Volume Down. Richie: If none of the suggestions worked so far, let’s Reset All Settings. Doing this step removes all your stored WiFi passwords, resets your Wallpaper, and returns most settings to their factory defaults. But none of your personal data is cleared. Richie: To reset, go to Settings / General / Reset / Reset All. Performing this step often cures software and app problems. Richie: Finally, for folks that really want to see what’s going on with their iPhones, take a look at your Analytics. For most of us, this data doesn’t make much sense. But for folks in the know and service or repair shops, this data can help them figure our what’s going on. Richie: Get to your Analytics by going to Settings / Privacy / Analytics / Analytics Data. Richie: This information might point to a particular app or operation that’s causing your problem Richie: And please, never charge your iPhone when it’s already hot. Give it some time to cool down before you connect it for charging. Better yet, power it down and move it to a cooler location and let it sit for at least half an hour before attempting to charge it again. Richie: Well, that’s about it for today. Richie: Check the link down below in the description to our articles on iDevice overheating issues. Richie: In these, we outline more troubleshooting tips and other information to assist you.
