【 L I N K S 】
IMPORTANT NOTE: Before starting, you should turn on file extensions in your file viewer if it isn’t on already.
• For Windows users, open File Explorer Options - View. Uncheck the “Hide extensions for known file types” box, click Apply, then OK.
• Other users can look up a guide online; you’ll find one easily!

【 F A Q 】
▶ Q: Can I hack on a Mac/Chromebook/etc.?
A: Yes!
▶ Q: Where is my SD card?
A: Read here: [ https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/89/~/how-to-remove-an-sd-card-or-microsd-card ]
▶ Q: Does the size of my SD card matter?
A: Not really! The one your console came with works!
▶ Q: I have a N3DS and can’t remove the back plate.
A: Windows users can go into System Settings - Data Management - microSD Management to access your SD card wirelessly. If it’s your first time using it, it’ll guide you through the process of setting it up. If you have trouble getting into the SD card, see this: [ https://gbatemp.net/threads/psa-microsd-management-smbv1-and-windows-10.494618/ ]. If you don’t have a Windows computer, unfortunately you have to remove the back plate and use an SD card adapter!
▶ Q: On Section II, "Required argument offset in DataView method is not specified" comes up.
A: You need to use another web browser, like Chrome.
▶ Q: My computer won't let me open the ZIPs/RARs.
A: You will need to install a ZIP/RAR opener!
▶ Q: How do I find my console's firmware information?
A: Go to the Settings and it should be on the top screen, bottom-right corner!
▶ Q: Am I a NEW or OLD console?
A: NEW is for the New 2DS XL, New 3DS, and New 3DS XL. OLD is for 2DS, 3DS, and 3DS XL.
▶ Q: I accidentally updated Steel Diver: Sub Wars. What do I do?
A: Go to System Settings - Data Management - Nintendo 3DS - Downloadable Content. Select the game and press Delete.
▶ Q: Homebrew got stuck on a screen (other than red).
A: This is normal! Just power off your console and try entering Homebrew again. It may take a few (or many) tries.
▶ Q: Homebrew got stuck on a red screen.
A: This means your boot.3dsx file is missing, misplaced, or misnamed. Make sure you have it in the root of your SD card (not in any folders) and that you have file extensions on to see if it’s mistakenly named “.3dsx.3dsx”.
▶ Q: The game crashed with an error.
A: Make sure you have the steelhax folder in your SD card with code.bin, rop.bin, and payload.bin inside of it. Make sure your payload file was made accurately and has the right name; make sure you have file extensions on to see if it’s mistakenly named “.bin.bin”
▶ Q: The game crashed without an error.
A: The payload.bin file inside the steelhax folder was made with the wrong system version (OLD/NEW). Reinstall it.
▶ Q: I’ve tried everything and still can’t get into Homebrew. What do I do?
A: Again, make sure you have file extensions on to ensure things are named correctly. Double, triple, and quadruple check that everything is placed correctly; compare my SD card with yours. If it still doesn't work, try reinstalling the game and following this guide again. Visit the Homebrew Discord server (linked on the website) for help.
▶ Q: Homebrew/JK's Save Manager froze/got stuck on a red screen.
A: This happens sometimes! Just power-off your console and enter Homebrew again.
▶ Q: My edits didn’t show up!
A: Make sure you’ve played that day before exporting, you’ve replacted the garden_plus.dat file, and that you’ve imported the original folder (not the backup).
▶ Q: My game comes up as a new town!
A: This means your “garden_plus.dat” file is named incorrectly. Make sure it’s named EXACTLY “garden_plus.dat”
▶ Q: My game got corrupted!
A: This can happen for multiple reasons; see our save editor guide for precautions. In JK’s Save Manager, you can import the copied folder (backup) you made to restore your own game!
