But that’s only half the kick-- the second half. My recommendation is to focus on the first half, meaning how fast you can get your foot up off the ground. And the trick to that is not to pull your leg up with your hip flexors, but to to push forward with your foot. My tip is to throw your kicks like you're running a sprint. Explode forward off the mark. You can break down this style of kicking into three steps... #1: Push the foot. Bounce your foot like a basketball, using only your calf. That's the motion you'll need to get your kick started. #2: Push the hip. Push the hip forward and let your leg swing up into a chamber. You can set up every type of kick with this double push of the foot and hip. #3: Throw the kick. Challenge yourself to get your foot up as fast as you can stick it out.
