Applesauce is an amazing ingredient in healthy baking that you can use to substitute oil, butter and eggs. It also acts as a sugar substitute since the natural sweetness from the apples means you won't need as much added sweetness. Here's how to make unsweetened applesauce. R E C I P E •••••••••••••• 4 medium apples 1/2-1 cup (118-235ml) water 1/2 tsp cinnamon 1 tbsp lemon juice D I R E C T I O N S •••••••••••••••••••••••• Core and chop your apples - I chose to keep the skins on, but you can peel them if you prefer. Add the apples to a saucepan along with the cinnamon and lemon juice. Add the water - starting with 1/2 cup (118ml). Add more if needed during cooking. Bring the water to a boil, reduce, cover then leave to simmer for 25-30 minutes until the apples are soft. Mash the apples using the back of a wooden spoon. Leave to cool completely, then blend with a hand blender. Alternatively use a potato masher. Transfer into a jar/container and store in the fridge for up to a week.
