How to melt frozen ground/dirt in the winter

I had to repair a pipe under my driveway. Two days in the weather turned bad and temps dropped to the 20's. After reading/watching many posts I decided to build an enclosure around a pile of dirt, pipe heat into the enclosure and try to thaw it out. It worked but left me with very soggy dirt!!
