Just wanted to show some steps in the poultry butchering process. The scald was our biggest challenge in getting the job done because I didnt want do build a fire and the hubby only wanted a fire. I tried a hot plate but the burner was too small to support a large pot like a water bath canner. A turkey fryer would of been handy as well but since we dont own one this turned out very nice and simple. The large drum was great for the bigger poultry and could easily hold 3 chickens if you had extra hands for plucking. I thought a whiz bang was the only way to go but after doing it by hand I would rather hang onto the cash for my small flock. This weekend is it for the rest of them, no more winter chores for me.
