Incredible Honey Bee Swarm Survives Monsoon Winter And Yappy OK. I'm man enough to admit when I mess up. This is one of those times. I collected a late season fall swarm last year and let time get away from me. One day its really nice and then the next thing I know, it is non stop rain and cold. So I did all I could to cover this hive up since they were in a cardboard nuc box to add some protection from the monsoon rains we have had this winter. At any given time when temps were fair and it wasn't raining, I would look to see if I had any activity at the entrance and I always did. I would even give them a weight check occasionally to see how they felt and all seemed good. Then the day finally came to get them out of that box and upgrade them to a little better housing and check on their food stores. What I found was surprising. They were still doing well. The food stores were low but the forager bees were doing their job. Pollen was low so the queen had taken a break from laying eggs. This video illustrates something you may find in your bee hives in very early spring. It may make you question if your queen is bad or was replaced over winter and now you have an unmated queen and no drones yet to fix it. That is still a possibility but in my case it was just a feed issue. Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video.
