Its 2018 and apple still ships some models of iMac with a 5200 rpm mechanical hard drive! Thankfully third party SSD's have become more accessible and can provide a major boost in performance. After giving up replacing the HDD with SSD on my iMac due to the sheer difficulty of the process, I decided to use an SSD externally. While there were reductions in the promised speeds of the SSD but still it felt like a new machine. Its really is the most simple way to give a new lease of life to an ageing iMac.
