It is not merely building walls out of bricks, but also digging the foundations, connecting the water and electricity, installing the wires and pipes inside the walls, and ensuring the roof is waterproof. This all comes before decorating the inside and ensuring that all the sinks, lights, and heaters are installed and working. Most buildings take months or even years to construct. However, there is a faster method, which requires the walls, ceiling, and even entire rooms to be built in factories and simply put together at the building site, which can be done in only a few weeks for a small house. This is why the construction of a hospital for 1,000 patients in only eight days is such an incredible feat. That a large new hospital would be needed so quickly in the Chinese city of Wuhan to cope with COVID-19 shows how serious the disease is and the importance of taking steps to control it. Compared to creating an entire hospital in a week, simply closing schools is quite easy – but just as important.
