Introduction to Distributed Database Systems

Many of the issues considered in other units of this module require a degree of further consideration when translated into a distributed context. When it becomes a requirement to distribute data across a network, the processes of transaction processing, concurrency control, recovery, security and integrity control and update propagation become significantly more involved. In this unit we shall introduce a number of extensions to mechanisms which we have previously considered for non-distributed systems. (Chapter 17)
