Why this Video is Important?
Every year there will be a question for guarantee in GATE exam from this topic. Also in text books this is not explained in a simpler way. This video will help you to understand this concept in simplest way and reach a level you will feel confident to solve any question not only from GATE but also IES.
Real Life Applications:
In day to day life the machine elements generally experience combined loading conditions, like tension plus compression, compression plus shear, tension plus shear, tension plus compression plus shear. Single loading cases are generally rare. To decide the material is going to be safe under those loading conditions, we need theories of failure.
Explanation:
Mainly there are five theories of failure. Each theory of failure is based on a parameter like maximum principle stress, max shear stress etc. The principle here is for our loading case that parameter should come lesser than that parameter of the same material in uniaxial loading case at failure. If not the failure would occur. Also to check authenticity of each theory of failure we take that combined loading case example as pure shear case. That will help us to establish a relation between strength in shear and strength in tension.
