if this was Ancient Rome. Deified: made into a god. "In ancient Rome, the Senate had a practice of deifying great leaders and if this were ancient Rome, I would propose that that great lady be deified" If you go on Hansard's website the bit of his speech towards the end is written wrong. It says he said: "The mind boggles at the thought of what a Green Mayor might do—a red one would be bad enough." See here: http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201212/cmhansrd/cm120221/debindx/120221-x.htm He actually said "The mind boggles at the thought, boggles at the thought, of what we would do with a Green Mayor of London — a red one is quite bad enough." It's a subtle shift in emphasis but it's clear he is speaking as a rich multiple-car owning London family, his dad William is a Lord too, and they divide time between the Somerset country estates and London. He is appealing to other Tory and Liberal MPs feelings too. I've emailed but they aren't interested,
