Jan 23, 2013 Russia_Putin meets Georgian Orthodox patriarch

Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted a meeting with the leader of the Georgian Orthodox Church, Catholicos-Patriarch Ilia II, at his residence outside Moscow on Wednesday. Putin congratulated Ilia II on his recent 80th birthday and on the 35th anniversary of his enthronement as patriarch. The president also thanked the patriarch for his work in maintaining cultural, spiritual and humanitarian contacts between the "brotherly peoples" of Russia and Georgia. Ilia II passed on greetings from the Georgia's new Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, and said the premier is doing his best to improve relations between the two countries.
