A beautiful old Serbian song from Vojvodina, "Škripi đeram, ko je na bunaru" (Шкрипи ђерам, ко је на бунару) was recorded by violin virtuoso, vocalist, and band leader Joca Mimika and his "Lire" tamburica orchestra from the town of Mol, in Vojvodina, sometime after the turn of the last century.   "Škripi đeram" is still very popular today and is just one of several famous songs from the play "Divljuša" (Дивљуша)¹, composed "in the spirit of Serbian folk songs" by renowned composer Isidor Bajić (1878-1915) of Novi Sad. These songs were so beloved that they have been almost universally accepted as authentic folk songs. ◆   ————○▣○—————   ¹ "Divljuša" is the Serbian version of the famous Hungarian folk play "A gyimesi vadvirág" (1897) by István Géczy (1860-1936), but with original songs composed by Isidor Bajić.   ———————————   Listen to (and download) more records at my blog: http://tamburitza78s.blogspot.com   Copyright © 2008 and 2010 Steven Kozobarich.
