Judith Murray: Phases and Layers Part 1

Judith Murray: Phases And Layers is a journey of an 8-foot by 9-foot abstract oil painting from blank canvas to finish over a period of 3 months. The filmmakers, Albert Maysles and Mark Ledzian went to Murray's studio while she was working on the painting to record its development and also her comments, from the first brush stroke on the blank canvas until it was completed. Robert Storr visited Murray's studio and discussed the process of viewing her paintings, which became the introduction to what follows in the film. This is a hands on film of an artist making a painting in her studio.
