Julie Plec & Nina Dobrev Talk "Elena" On 'The Vampire Diaries'

ClevverTV recaps it all right now! Hello TVD fanatics -- I'm Joslyn Davis in our ClevverTV Hollywood studio breaking down the leading lady in Mystic Falls, Elena Gilbert. Both the executive producer of the show Julie Plec, and the actress who plays the role, Nina Dobrev, have recently spoken out about Elena and who exactly she is and who she will hopefully be in the future. We aren't the only ones out there who have noticed that Elena has come upon quite a few hard times this season. Nina Dobrev indirectly told the New York Post that she'd like Elena to get a little break from all the drama in her life, and maybe even "smile a bit." Of course the actress understands the nature of the show, but she thinks that Elena "needs to lighten up because if she becomes this constantly crying character, it makes her weaker. She needs to begin to have a real life again, because right now she's consumed by chaos." Well Nina, that does sound like a great idea, but TVD's executive producer told our friends at TV Guide that "profound loss and that journey" is part of who Elena is and will continue to be...especially since she has no parental figure in her life and will have to be somewhat of a surrogate parent to Jeremy now.
